New York City is the epicenter of the corona crisis in the USA. The city already has more than 160,000 infected people and almost 13,000 fatalities. For weeks there has also been the rule: stay at home. Walks are allowed, but only in the immediate vicinity.
–
But of all things, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (58) and his wife Chirlane McCray (65) break the rules! The two walked through Prospect Park in Brooklyn last weekend. This is a full 10 miles away from Gracie Mansion, the mayor’s residence. There the couple would have Carl Schurz Park in front of their door.

New Yorker Darren Goldner films the walk and publishes the video on Twitter. While filming, Goldner exposes the mayor and says: “Seriously. You live in a park. So you don’t necessarily have to travel to Brooklyn to go for a walk in a park. ” But de Blasio doesn’t answer and just waves it away.
–
“No. I will not stop. This is selfish behavior. They call themselves progressive. All of this is ridiculous and the epitome of an unimportant journey, ”Goldner continued. But the mayor and his wife simply run away from the visibly angry New Yorker.

According to the New York Post, the two of them were also chauffeured to the park by four SUV security vehicles.

“These walks help me be effective”
Yesterday, Monday, de Blasio was asked about the incident in Prospect Park at a media conference. But the mayor wants to tick off the topic quickly and simply says: «We shouldn’t concentrate on that. There are much more important things to discuss. “

After further questions from the journalists, de Blasio defends his excursion and makes it clear: “I am allowed to do sports like everyone else. These walks help me to be effective. ” (sib)
