Coronavirus: New York faces vaccine shortage

Confronted with technical hiccups and a shortage of doses, New Yorkers are relying on their own resources to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, at the cost of additional stress.

It took Dee, 78, three days to land the famous and popular date. The three of them, her two sons and a daughter-in-law, got down to it, at the cost of many hours of waiting on the internet and “many, many attempts”.

They looked for a place in all possible places, including far from Dee’s place. And the septuagenarian finally received her dose on Friday morning, in East Harlem, when she lives several tens of kilometers north of New York.

Since New York City expanded vaccination first to over 75s and then this week to over 65s, as recommended by the federal government, many have been tearing their hair out to land a vaccination appointment, on state or city websites.
