MADRID, 3 (EUROPA PRESS
New York has surpassed one million cases of coronavirus this Saturday, making it the fourth state in the United States to do so after California, Texas and Florida.
According to the Johns Hopkins University count, New York registered a record of 17,033 infections on January 1 and had a total of 1,011,665 cases, while 38,273 people have died from the disease.
With higher figures are California (2.3 million), Texas (1.79 million) and Florida (1.3 million), while Illinois with 975,352 cases could reach this mark in the coming days.
NEW DAILY RECORD IN THE USA
Likewise, according to the COVID Tracking Project count, the United States reached a new record of infections in 24 hours this Saturday with 275,897 new positives in 24 hours.
However, the organization warns that these data are influenced by problems or lack of updating of some states during the end of the year holidays, so they have asked for “caution” when interpreting them.
The rise in coronavirus cases after Thanksgiving had only just begun to subside when experts began to worry about a possible increase in infections after the Christmas holidays.
In California, the epicenter of the pandemic, hospitals have requested blood donations for the sick and members of the National Guard and health of the Armed Forces have joined the hospitals due to the number of patients.
