For the first time in two months, the death toll in the US state of New York is below 100 and creates a positive mood: “This is a sign that we are making real progress.”
In the US state of New York, which has been particularly hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic, the number of deaths in one day is in double digits for the first time in around two months. On Friday, 84 people died in the state with around 19 million inhabitants after being infected with the virus, said Governor Andrew Cuomo at his daily press conference on Saturday.
“This news is good news,” said Cuomo. “It’s a sign that we’re making real progress.” The number of new infections also continued to decline in the state.
At the height of the New York crisis in March and April, up to 800 people had died a day. In total, more than 360,000 people have been infected in the state so far and around 29,000 have died.
