Coronavirus, new record in the US: over 200 thousand infections in one day. The third wave of the epidemic is coming to Japan

While Italy and all of Europe are dealing with the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic, Japan is already preparing to face the third. The health authorities are sounding the alarm, worried by the sudden increase in infections: more than a thousand in the last 24 hours, something that had not happened in the country for some time. All other numbers instead come from the United States, where the pandemic is completely out of control: according to Johns Hopkins University only yesterday they were over 200 thousand new cases of coronavirus. A new record, as well as – according to CNN, which cites data from the Covid Tracking Project (Ctp) – also for hospital admissions: as of yesterday, 61,964 people were hospitalized. The United States thus confirms itself as the first country in the world for the number of infections and victims, with 10,256,094 cases of Covid-19 and 239,673 deaths since the beginning of the health emergency.

Japan – The country is preparing to face the third wave of coronavirus. To sound the alarm are the health authorities which, as reported by the Guardian, estimate a new increase in infections as imminent. Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga wished to obtain doses of vaccines sufficient to cover the entire Japanese population, but in the meantime the daily cases of Covid-19 increase partly due to falling temperatures e partly due to the many movements within the country favored by a government campaign to promote local tourism. In the last 24 hours, 1,284 new infections have been recorded for a total of 111,222. The death toll is 1,864.

Germany – In the last twenty-four hours it has been 18,487 new cases of coronavirus and another 261 deaths. New data from the Robert Koch Institute bring the total to 705,687 infections and 11,767 deaths since the beginning of the health emergency. According to the German newspaper image, in the country there are 300,000 students and 30,000 teachers in quarantine for Covid. Industry experts call it “lockdown-salami”, because it affects “slices” of the school world, in a country that has made the choice to keep students in the classroom (with face-to-face lessons) as long as possible, so as not to penalize the development of children and young people due to the pandemic. Yesterday, the Federal Minister of Education, Anja Karlikzek, spoke in favor of the use of masks in the classroom, even in elementary school: a measure that is still much discussed but which is already being applied in Italy.

Brazil – The Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro he downplayed the coronavirus pandemic again, arguing that Brazil must “stop being a country of sissies“. “I’m sorry for the dead, I’m sorry, but we all have to die someday. Here, we all have to die, ”Bolsonaro said during a speech on tourism delivered in the presidential palace in Planalto. “We need to stop being a country of sissies and face the pandemic head on,” Bolsonaro said. In Brazil, the pandemic caused 162,638 victims and over 5 and a half million people infected.

Venezuela – Venezuela will be “in a position” to start one massive and free vaccination campaign against the coronavirus from April 2021: its president, Nicolas Maduro said Tuesday, saying he was “optimistic”. “I have calculated that we may be in a position to start mass vaccination in Venezuela in a free, safe and direct way in April,” Maduro said in a televised speech. His government claims to have curbed the increase in infections in Venezuela, a country of 30 million inhabitants that officially counts 95,149 confirmed cases and 830 deaths. But organizations like Human Rights Watch question these figures, deeming the situation much more serious.
