The city of Thionville (Moselle) now has his “Covid Center”, the first of its kind in the department. It has been in service since this Thursday, April 9, 2020, 9 a.m., in the Jean-Burger room. It will be fully operational Tuesday April 14.

Its main function is to help people with symptoms of coronavirus and who did not go to a general practitioner. “There are six doctors at a standstill in Thionville and its surroundings,” said the mayor (various right) Pierre Cuny, himself an endocrinologist, with Lorraine News.

“We have to think about relieving emergencies”

According to Pierre Cuny, “the center works in conjunction with general practitioners”. Its purpose is to take care of people who do not want to go to their doctor:

The first patient of the day is a textbook case. He is a 60-year-old man who is alone at home, who does not know what to do, who has coughs, loss of smell, headaches and whose daughter lives far from his home. Typically, this is the kind of people you can care for. We have to think about relieving emergencies.

The purpose of the room is to come to the aid of “doctors on the front line”. Those who are still on duty “can provide telephone follow-up”.

“Desertification of general medical practices”

Overall, this Covid center is a response to “a desertification general medicine offices, ”according to the mayor of Thionville. According to him, “the public no longer goes to general practitioners because they no longer dare to go, they’re afraid of the Covid-19 ″.

Then, the Jean-Burger room will allow the patient to no longer be isolated, unlike a general practice “to prevent any risk of infection,” recalls Pierre Cuny. “We have to make people want to go back to the doctor for all pathologies, not just for the Covid,” he said.

The Jean-Burger room will be open to infected people 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day from Tuesday April 14. “They can be taken care of by city doctors and paramedics,” adds Pierre Cuny, without forgetting all the branches of caregivers, such as nurses and members of hospital staff.

In Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle), a first center of the same kind also opened its doors. Metz (Moselle) is thinking about it but has not yet officially announced it.

For any emergency, the City of Thionville has set up a toll-free number, the 0 800 830 825. Facebook group Thionville Mutual Aid is also helpful.
