Fever up to 39 degrees, plus flu symptoms such as fatigue, sore throat, cough and headache. A quick look at the Internet: That must be Corona. But watch out! It could also be the harmless summer flu.

At the request of BLICK, cantonal doctor Rudolf Hauri confirmed that summer flu was rife in Switzerland: “Yes, we hear from our colleagues in practice that more people have flu-like symptoms. Especially children. » However, such cases do not have to be reported, and therefore one could not provide any information on the extent, Hauri continued.

Symptoms are usually less pronounced than with corona
Another indication of the summer flu: the increasing number of corona tests in the hospitals and at the same time the rather low number of people newly infected every day. For example, in the hospital in Bülach ZH, more and more people have been tested for the corona virus since the beginning of June, such as the “Zürcher Unterländer” reported.

In addition: “Especially children and adolescent patients with flu-like symptoms would be tested for the virus at the moment,” says Thomas Langholz, head of communications at the hospital, to the newspaper.

Summer flu is caused by so-called enteroviruses and occurs especially in the hotter months. Children get it more often than adults. The symptoms resemble normal flu and those of the coronavirus. The difference to Corona: In most cases, the symptoms are not so pronounced. (sib)
