“Most hospitals already use the help of the military. Unfortunately, for political reasons, some refuse. Remember, it’s about human life, not politics! Soldiers are trained and can relieve medical staff who will have more time to care for patients” – wrote the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak on Twitter.
Niedzielski asks the army for help
Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski he said during a press conference earlier last week that we often deal with “some incomprehensible hiding of beds for COVID-19 patients, which are actually available, and not necessarily the director or the head of the unit wants to see this patient”.
– Therefore, we will want to apply such a more objective solution here, we will ask the military for support in the administration of information about available beds – he announced head of the health department.

– We will turn to the Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak (…) that a person should be directed to each hospital – a soldier of territorial troops or an operational army, who will be responsible for updating this system – said Niedzielski.
Hospital directors letter. “Strong opposition”
“The National Association of County Hospital Employers expresses firm opposition to such actions” – they wrote directors of more than 140 hospitals in a letter to the minister of health.
“OZPSP called for the redirection of soldiers to hospitals who would support administratively or technically the work of our entities in the scope that would be appointed by their directors. It is unimaginable and unacceptable that the tasks of such people would be imposed from the top by the management of the provincial branches of the National Health Fund” – stated the directors.
As assessed by the authors of the letter, “it is entering the scope and at the same time undermining the competences of the directors who run hospitals and take responsibility for running them. It is also an open and direct expression of the lack of trust in them on the part of the National Health Fund and the Ministry of Health”.
– We do not hide every morning, but discover and look for these beds. The only bed is hidden when the patient dies and the bed has to be free for a while – this is how Prof. Miłosz Parczewski, a virologist from Szczecin.
– Ambulances with new patients who are in a serious or moderate condition are coming all the time. We shorten this period of hospitalization to a minimum so that this turnover of beds is as fast as possible. It happens, however, that the beds, even at the Emergency Department, are full and the ambulances are waiting. It is not so often, but as it will be in a moment – hard to say – he added.
