+++ 07:04 Corona help – More than 15,000 criminal charges for fraud +++
–
With immediate aid, the state wanted to help companies through the Corona crisis quickly and unbureaucratically – but there is a suspicion that they have been abused in thousands of cases. In connection with the aid from the spring of 2020, there are around 15,000 criminal charges and investigative proceedings, according to dpa information in the Ministry of Economic Affairs’s response to a request from the AfD parliamentary group. A high number of unreported cases is likely. By far the largest number of criminal charges were in North Rhine-Westphalia, with more than 4,300, followed by Hesse and Berlin.
+++ 06:45 India reports another high – more than 234,000 new cases +++
India reports another high with 234,692 new infections. In total, the coronavirus was detected in almost 14.5 million people, according to the Ministry of Health. India, with its around 1.35 billion inhabitants, has the second most cases of infection worldwide – after the USA, which has more than 32 million cases. The number of deaths related to the virus increases by 1,341 in India to 175,649.
+++ 06:12 RKI: Up to 70 percent more deaths in socially disadvantaged areas +++
In socially disadvantaged regions of Germany, the number of deaths in the second corona wave was 50 to 70 percent higher than in more affluent regions. This emerges from two studies by the Robert Koch Institute reported by the editorial network Germany. The risk of infection is therefore also unevenly distributed. In January, the incidence value in severely socially disadvantaged regions in the 60 to 79-year-old age group was around 190. In the socially and financially better-off senior citizens of the same age, the incidence was slightly more than 100.
+++ 05:25 RKI reports 23,804 new infections – incidence at 160.7 +++
The Robert Koch Institute reports 23,804 new corona infections and 219 new deaths within one day. On Saturday a week ago, the RKI had recorded 24,097 new infections and 246 new deaths within one day. The number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide is 160.7. The day before, the RKI had given this seven-day incidence as 160.1, four weeks ago it was 99.9.
Note: The RKI figures usually deviate slightly from the case data that ntv.de reports daily in the evening. The ntv.de data team has direct access to the registration figures from the federal states as published by the local ministries and authorities. The RKI, on the other hand, is bound to the legally prescribed reporting channels, which can lead to a delay.
In addition, the respective daily values map different recording periods: the ntv evaluation collects the country information published by the evening and uses this to calculate a daily status of the reported number of cases, which is usually published from 8 p.m. onwards. The RKI’s recording system, on the other hand, takes into account incoming reports up to midnight, with the current data status being announced the following morning.
+++ 04:49 youth welfare offices: number of school dropouts could double +++
The youth welfare offices in Germany warn of a higher number of school dropouts due to the Corona crisis. “With a view to the two graduating cohorts, the number of school dropouts threatens to double,” says Lorenz Bahr, chairman of the federal working group of state youth welfare offices, the newspapers of the Funke media group. Typically, around 104,000 young people leave school without a qualification each year. “We now expect at least a doubling: 210,000 school dropouts in 2020 and exactly as many again this year.” This development will drag on through many layers, and children from the middle class will also experience an “earlier career break”.
+++ 03:39 In the case of vaccination, there was a suspension of office for Peru’s ex-president +++
Former Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra is banned from public office for ten years because of his involvement in a vaccination scandal. Because he had himself vaccinated against the coronavirus out of turn with the vaccine from the Chinese manufacturer Sinopharm at the end of last year, the South American country’s congress imposed a ban on the former head of state on Friday (2018-2020). This means that the 58-year-old cannot exercise his parliamentary mandate, which he won in last Sunday’s election.
+++ 02:29 Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania tightened entry restrictions +++
Because of the nationwide high number of infections, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is further restricting the rules for entering the coastal region. If you come from another federal state and have a second home in the northeast, you have to leave it by Friday next week at the latest, as the state government in Schwerin announced early in the morning. This also applies to long-term campers, allotment garden tenants and boat owners from other federal states. “We are the country with the toughest travel restrictions. And we stand by that,” says Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig.
+++ 01:20 USA: Advice on Johnson & Johnson vaccination freeze next Friday +++
After the temporary suspension of corona vaccinations with the active ingredient from Johnson & Johnson in the USA, an advisory committee of the US health authority CDC wants to advise on how to proceed next Friday (April 23). The CDC director Rochelle Walensky announced.
+++ 00:06 MEPs for faster approval of vaccines against variants +++
The MEPs have spoken out in favor of an accelerated approval process for vaccines that are adapted to new coronavirus variants. The European Parliament’s Health Committee voted in favor of a corresponding proposal from the EU Commission. Manufacturers of already approved corona vaccines should therefore in future have to submit less data to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the approval of adapted agents.
+++ 22:21 NRW reports almost 6000 new infections – incidence in Thuringia over 250 +++
Among the 16 federal states, most of the new cases are reported from the most populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia: 5717. The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days (seven-day incidence) thus rises to 162.7 in North Rhine-Westphalia. The highest incidence among the federal states, however, is Thuringia with 256, followed by Saxony (229.5). Schleswig-Holstein has the lowest incidence value with 73.5 – it is also the only federal state with an incidence below 100. In many districts and cities of Schleswig-Holstein, after a month-long Corona break, outdoor restaurants have been allowed to open again since Monday.
+++ 22:07 First visit by a head of government to Biden with strict corona rules +++
Because of the corona pandemic, special rules also apply to the first visit by a foreign head of government to the White House of US President Joe Biden: For example, contrary to custom, there will be no meal together for Biden and the Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on his visit on Friday, said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki. At the meetings, the delegation members kept their distance. The number of reporters at the final press conference will also be limited.
+++ 21:38 More than 200 million vaccine doses administered in the USA +++
Since the start of the corona vaccination campaign in the USA in mid-December, more than 200 million vaccinations have been administered. A total of 202.3 million cans have been sprayed so far.

They say that there is more real-world data showing the safety of these two vaccines so far. The experts point out that around 90,000 pregnant women have been vaccinated so far in the USA, mainly with the two vaccines. There were no safety concerns.
+++ 20:45 Current data situation in Germany: 25,638 new cases reported +++
The number of reported coronavirus infections in Germany has risen to 3,110,516. As can be seen from the information from the state authorities evaluated by ntv.de, 25,638 new cases were added. That’s a remarkably small increase compared to the previous week – just 42 cases above Friday’s level last week (25,596). However, the reasons for this are unclear. A connection with a wave of late registrations after the Easter holidays is conceivable. Around 275,100 people are currently infected.
The number of deaths related to infection rose 239 to 79,759. On a weekly basis, this key figure even shows a slight decrease: Last Friday, the state authorities reported 266 deaths, 27 more than today.
The infection rate (R value) is given by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) as 1.18 (previous day: 1.15). The 7-day R-value is currently 1.18 (previous day: 1.11). According to the DIVI register, 4740 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in intensive care in Germany, 2708 of them are ventilated. Around 3,804 intensive care beds are currently still available in the German clinics.
