7:45 a.m .: Government increases bike plan
In the Paris Match magazine, the Minister of Ecological Transition Elisabeth Borne announced this Thursday additional means to encourage the French to practice cycling in the perspective of deconfinement, in order to avoid a massive transfer of public transport to the car.
The government will increase the fund it created in late April to 60 million euros. “We have decided to triple this budget to 60 million euros and to target the million reconditioned bikes by the end of the year,” Paris Match Elisabeth Borne.
Initially endowed with 20 million euros, this fund makes it possible to finance aid of 50 euros for the repair of a bicycle (change of chain, brakes, tires, derailleur, etc.) within a referenced network of repairers, listed on the website of the Federation of Bicycle Users (FUB) and a dedicated platform.
It is also used to finance temporary parking spaces and training to learn or relearn how to ride a bicycle.
