Twitter issues warning about anti-vaccine message from populist leader in the Netherlands
Thierry Baudet, leader of the Dutch populist Forum for Democracy (FvD) party, received a warning from Twitter on Monday about one of his messages sent by the social network. “Let it be clear: I am ABSOLUTELY not going to” vaccinate “against the coronavirus. The risk of this virus is not, for me, important,” he wrote. And he added that it is not an “anti-vaccine” in general, but only with the covid-19 vaccine. “The side effects are strong. And the long-term effect on the immune system is completely unknown,” he noted.
This message “misleads,” replied Twitter, in a warning to users of the site, placed in Baudet’s tweet. “Find out why the official health authorities consider vaccines against covid-19 safe for most of the people,” added the social network, which leads to an explanatory link where the safety of vaccines is highlighted.
He also disabled the politician’s message sharing feature, but many users played and spread it from their own accounts.
