The managing director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, said this Sunday in the framework of the G-7 summit that rich countries and pharmaceutical companies must “pay” for vaccination programs against the coronavirus in developing countries. “We must ensure that the world makes rich countries and companies pay for it,” he stressed, and insisted that we must organize the donation of “surplus vaccines” to the poorest countries. The G-7 countries have agreed to donate 1 billion doses of vaccines over the next year and work with the private sector, the G-20 and other countries to increase the contribution to states with fewer resources. The World Health Organization (WHO) has assured this week that it takes around 11,000 million doses to vaccinate 70% of the world’s population. The pandemic has already caused more than 3.8 million deaths in the world and some 176 million infections.
