Coronavirus. Japan closes its doors to foreigners for a month

The Japan announced this Saturday, December 23 that it would temporarily close its borders to foreigners not residing in the country after the detection on its territory of a variant of coronavirus potentially very contagious.

The ban will take effect on December 28 and run until the end of January, the Japanese government said in a statement. This measurement is made after the discovery in Japan of the first cases of contamination by the variant recently discovered in Great Britain.

A mandatory negative test for the Japanese

Japanese citizens and foreign residents will be able to continue entering Japan but will be required to show a negative test 72 hours before their travel and will be quarantined for two weeks after arrival, the statement said.

The virus continues to spread in Japan, especially in Tokyo, where the authorities reported this Saturday a record of daily contaminations with 949 new cases detected in the capital over the past 24 hours.
