Coronavirus: Italy registers 168 deaths in the last 24 hours

Deaths from the new coronavirus in Italy are already 631, 168 registered in 24 hours, a record number of fatalities by the virus in one day, according to authorities.

The Italian authorities recorded 8,514 positive cases of the virus, 1,004 of which have been cured, making a total of 10,149 infected since the beginning of the crisis in Italy, making this country the most affected by the outbreak in Europe.

All 168 deaths in the past 24 hours have been reported in northern Lombardy, where 468 people have already died from the new coronavirus.

Italy became the first country after China with the most fatalities and the most infected by the new virus. The entire territory is covered by special combat measures. The government ordered the closure of swimming pools, schools, universities, churches, banned travel and anything that could promote contact between people.

Almost 120,000 infected worldwide since the outbreak began

The number of people infected with the new coronavirus worldwide has increased to 118,770, of whom 4,269 died, according to a balance made by the news agency France Presse (AFP), with data updated at 21:00, Paris time. .

Citing official sources, AFP says that since the Covid-19 outbreak (the disease caused by the new coronavirus) broke out in December 2019 in China, 4,084 new infections and 287 new deaths have been reported in 107 countries and territories since the balance sheet. at 5:00 pm on Monday.

Burkina Faso, Panama, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mongolia and Northern Cyprus (a self-proclaimed Turkish republic not recognized by the international community) today announced the first cases.

More than 117,000 people have been infected in more than a hundred countries and more than 63,000 have recovered.

Portugal registers 41 confirmed cases of infection, according to DGS. DGS also reported that in Portugal a total of 375 suspected cases have been reached since the beginning of the epidemic, 83 of which are still awaiting laboratory results.

In view of the increase in cases, the Government ordered the temporary suspension of visits to hospitals, homes and prisons in the North, which has so far been the most affected. Some educational establishments were closed, especially in the North of the country, as well as gyms, libraries, swimming pools and cinemas.
