Over seven out of ten of those infected by the coronavirus in Italy have few or no symptoms. The most serious cases of Covid-19 are about 7.3% of the total and those with a critical clinical picture 0.7%. This is what emerges from the updated report ofCollege of Health who analyzed the characteristics of the current patients in our country.

Going to read the numbers in detail it is 55.9% of the current positives to result asymptomatic. 15.7% are pauci-symptomatic, i.e. they have few symptoms, 21.2% have slightly milder symptoms. It is 6.6% of the positive al Covid-19 who, on the other hand, complain of more serious symptoms, while as mentioned less than 1% present a worrying clinical picture.
Isolation and hospitalization
Where are they, and in what percentage, the infected in Italy? How many are in hospital and how many in intensive care? The latest ISS report establishes that the vast majority – about 91.2% – of coronavirus positives are facing the infection at their home or in another facility. 8.4% of patients were hospitalized and of these 9.2% are in intensive care because of the virus. To them must be added those who are on a Quarantine Ship (0.3%) and those hospitalized at the Celio Military Hospital (0.01%).
The age of the infected
With reference to the period from 28 September to 11 October, the ISS report shows that about half of the patients, 47.1%, are in the 19 to 50 age group. 24.2% of the positives are between 51 and 70, those over 70 only 11.3%. Finally, the numbers of children and young people (the range 0-18) infected with coronavirus they are estimated at 17.3% of the total.
How were they identified?
The Higher Institute of Health reports that the detection of cases is equally distributed among screening activities (31.6%), from contact tracing (30.5%) and 30.6% due to patients with symptoms, therefore detected only because they complained of disturbances, beyond the tracking and control network. A fact that the institute defines as “worrying”. The origin of 7.3% is unknown. The role of arrivals from abroad has been significantly reduced: imported cases are just 2.4%, while 88.7% are indigenous and 1.1% come from a region other than that of notification.
