Coronavirus is rampant in Sweden, the country leads the ranking of the most affected countries in Europe

The second place in the imaginary ranking belongs to Hungary (521.9), the third is Switzerland (457.93). The Czech Republic is well behind the tenth place, with a value of 300.41 infected per million inhabitants.

At Christmas in a maximum of eight people

Given the current situation, the Swedish government has decided to limit people’s meetings. Residents will be able to meet a maximum of eight people during Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. The restriction applies to public meetings, but Prime Minister Löfven has called on the Swedes to comply with this limit also during private celebrations. “Christmas this year cannot be as we are used to,” Löfven said.

“Avoid new contacts, meet as few people as possible and meet them as little as possible. Just be with them for a short time and keep your distance. And it’s best to meet them outside. Avoid travel by train and bus, “the Prime Minister urged the residents.

In a country of about ten million, there were 18,820 confirmed cases of the disease. The number includes dates from Friday. Sweden does not publish statistics on weekends and on Mondays. During the same period, the country recorded 133 covid-19 deaths. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, 297,732 people have become infected in Sweden and 7,200 people have died.

The number of victims in relation to the population is several times higher in Sweden than in neighboring countries, but lower than in some other European countries, which, unlike Sweden, have introduced strict quarantine measures. The population-comparable Czech Republic has registered 551 thousand confirmed cases and more than 9000 related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The country has not yet significantly changed its benevolent approach to the pandemic. It does not restrict entry for EU citizens. At the same time, it is possible to travel freely from the country. Traffic in Sweden is not limited.

Sweden has not announced widespread restrictions, with the exception of the ban on mass events over eight people. Until the end of November, 300 people were allowed. The authorities recommend keeping a safe distance of two meters between people in public. Teaching was tightened, and until January 6, secondary schools switched to distance learning.

The obligation to wear a veil in the country does not apply. Chief epidemiologist Anders Tegnell considers their effectiveness in the fight against the disease to be insufficiently proven. According to him, it is more important to keep the distances.
