In the children’s center “Young Guard”, where a few days ago were discovered first cases of coronavirus strain DeltaOn August 19, it became known about the high rate of spread of the disease. Now, 67 cases of COVID-19 infection have been recorded in the camp.
About it the publication “Suspilne” said the chief sanitary doctor of the Odessa region Vitaly Goncharov. In just a day, the coronavirus disease was confirmed in six children and one counselor.
The sanitary doctor pointed out that it is not yet known exactly how many patients from the “Young Guard” are affected by the Delta strain. These data will appear within 3-5 days, when the analysis of the biomaterial taken from them will be carried out.
The camp director declined to comment on journalists, despite the fact that eight of the sick children are in the city clinic and need inpatient treatment.
Goncharov, in turn, believes that testing for Delta in the Odessa region will be able to start in September.
“Now this strain is already being registered throughout the country: somewhere less, somewhere more. It is not worth emphasizing this, because this is more important information for us, epidemiologists. Since we must understand the speed of its spread or infectivity,” he concluded medical doctor.
