Coronavirus in Warsaw and Mazovia. Chart, new cases and died [21 sierpnia]

The number of people infected is growing in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, and several dozen more cases of coronavirus have also been confirmed in the capital. One of the councilors suggested that the city set up machines for disinfecting hands in the vicinity of stops, clinics and supermarkets.

On Friday, the health ministry provided information o 903 new, confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Poland. Most – 168 – concerns the Śląskie Voivodeship, 156 are from Małopolska and 146 from Mazovia. This is as much as 50 more than was recorded in our region on Thursday. In recent days, the results have exceeded the number one hundred several times.

The situation in Warsaw

One-third of the new cases in the Mazowieckie voivodship come from Warsaw. On Friday, the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Warsaw informed about 47 new infections in the capital. For several days, the number of new cases of infections in the capital has fluctuated around 50 a day.

Since the beginning of the epidemic in Warsaw, 2,985 cases have been confirmed. 1,081 people were considered convalescents, eight of them in the last 24 hours. So far, 133 people have died due to the coronavirus in the capital. This number has not increased in several days.

From the second half of July, several dozen cases have been reported daily in the capital. Until now, the largest number was August 7 and 8, when 56 of them came.

Automatic hand disinfectants

Meanwhile, Warsaw councilor Renata Niewitecka (Civic Coalition) asked the mayor of the city, Rafał Trzaskowski, with a proposal to set up bus stops, medical clinics, supermarkets, recreational and sports areas, free hand disinfection machines in the vicinity.

In her opinion, this could help reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The councilor indicated that in many cities local authorities had installed such devices. She gave Zielona Góra as an example.

In response to the interpellation, Deputy Mayor Robert Soszyński emphasized that the hand disinfection stations are located “on the premises of public utility facilities, including the Warsaw City Hall and in subordinate units”.

He recalled that “the order to provide hand disinfectants was imposed on entities managing, among others, sports, commercial or service facilities, petrol stations, and markets”. In his opinion, “the number of points for disinfection in the city allows us to assume that their saturation is sufficient”.

Soszyński also admitted that due to the “need to rationalize public spending, introduced due to the current epidemic, there are currently no plans to purchase contactless disinfection stations”.
