A nightmare that has now become a reality. The corona virus has hit the metropolis of millions. And now produces images that were never thought possible. The deserted Times Square, a practically deserted Central Park, abandoned subway stations. And hardly any cars on the otherwise notoriously congested streets. There is an alarm mood in New York.

Mayor Bill de Blasio says: “New York is the epicenter of the crisis.” There are over 5000 sick people there, on Friday alone 14 people died of the coronavirus within ten hours. At least one dead every hour.

The virus is also rampant in the rest of the country. The United States is now the third most coronavirus-affected country in the world. Behind China and Italy. The number of infected people soared by more than ten times to more than 25,000 cases within just one week. And everything is missing. Staff, places in the intensive care unit, corona tests and ventilators. The US healthcare system also appears to be poorly prepared for such a pandemic.

Almost a quarter of the US population, 80 million out of 330 million inhabitants, are now affected by more or less harsh curfews. Such restrictions existed in California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
