Coronavirus in the United States – cases have increased, hospitals are overcrowded

US health authorities have issued a strong call for a vaccination against the coronavirus, stressing that the number of victims of the pandemic has begun to rise again due to the spread of the Delta strain.

“The message that is reaching us is clear: we are starting to witness a pandemic of the unvaccinated,” said the director of the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) Rochelle Walenski.

According to the CDC, in the United States in just a week, an average of 23,300 new cases of the disease were recorded daily. This includes 2,790 hospitalizations and 211 deaths from coronavirus. Thus, the incidence in the country increased by 70%, the number of hospitalizations – by 36%, and the death rate – by 26%.

“Unvaccinated people represent almost all hospitalizations and deaths,” said Jeff Zientes, White House pandemic response coordinator.

It is also known that the Delta strain in the United States now accounts for more than 80% of all new cases.

At the same time, the Associated Press reports that the new wave of coronavirus has caused damage to the health care system. Hospitals are overcrowded – some of them are reporting record numbers of coronavirus patients. And in those hospitals where there are not so many patients with COVID-19, the doctors are still overwhelmed, as they are trying to catch up with operations and other procedures that could not be carried out due to the winter wave of morbidity.
