Coronavirus in the Netherlands identified gorillas and lions at the zoo of Rotterdam

At the Rotterdam Zoo (Netherlands), the coronavirus was found in gorillas and lions. The animal is suspected of being infected by an employee who carries the infection without symptoms.

The animals were tested for coronavirus after the zoo staff paid attention to their condition. Lions had flu symptoms such as lethargy, decreased appetite and mild coughing, while gorillas had stomach and intestinal problems.

Infected animals are in quarantine and are temporarily unavailable to visitors. The arrangement of aviaries with gorillas and lions excludes contact between them and the guests of the zoo.

It is noted that it is not known how the animals could have contracted the coronavirus. There is a suspicion that the source of the infection could be a zoo employee who is asymptomatic with COVID-19.
