Spain has registered 281 deaths from Covid-19 disease in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 24,824, but confirming the slowdown in the pandemic, according to figures released Friday by the Ministry of Health. Thursday, the death toll had reached its lowest since March 20 with 268 deaths. Spain, the fourth most bereaved country in the world after the United States, Italy and Great Britain, has registered 215,216 confirmed cases.
The balance sheet has been maintained for six days around 300 daily deaths, far from the peak of 950 deaths in 24 hours recorded in early April.
Some 2,628 additional people were declared cured, bringing the total to 114,678.
As a sign of the drop in health tension, Madrid proceeded on Friday to close the immense field hospital installed at the end of March in the exhibition pavilions of the trade fair. The facilities will be kept to be able to cope with a possible new wave of contagion.
The weekend will also be the occasion for a further relaxation of the very strict confinement imposed since March 14 on the approximately 47 million Spaniards, with the authorization of individual sport outings, which follows that of outings for children .
However, time slots must be respected, with the main objective of avoiding overcrowding on the streets and keeping children and the elderly at a distance, who will not be able to go out at the same hours.
This easing occurs after seven weeks of severe confinement during which the Spanish could only go out to go to work if teleworking was impossible, to go to the supermarket, the pharmacy or briefly take out the dog.
The head of government Pedro Sanchez announced that the beginning of the deconfinement could be done from May 11 if the sanitary improvement was maintained, and spread in several phases until the end of June.
