Coronavirus in Spain live: vaccine, measures and restrictions at Christmas, today | Last minute

GERMANY: 14,432 NEW CONTAGES AND 500 DECEASED SINCE YESTERDAY

Germany registered 14,432 new infections with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, while the death toll reached 500, the third highest in the entire pandemic. According to data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) of virology updated last midnight, the number of positives since the first contagion was known in the country at the end of January amounts to 1,351,510, with 22,475 dead.

The contagion data in the last 24 hours indicates that they have been registered 378 more than a week ago and 1,930 less than yesterday, while fatalities are 77 more than last Tuesday and 312 more than Monday.

Around 1,003,300 people have recovered from the disease while the number of active cases stands at 325,700, according to RKI estimates. The maximum number of new infections and daily deaths was reached last Friday, with 29,875 positives and 598 deathly victims.

In Germany as a whole, the cumulative incidence in the last seven days stood at 173.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and new infections rose to 144,485 in the last week.

The number of patients with covid-19 in the intensive care units on Monday amounted to 4,670 -118 more in 24 hours-, of which 2,668 -57%, and 66 more compared to the previous day- receive assisted breathing, according to data from the German Interdisciplinary Association of Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI ).

The reproduction factor (R) that takes into account infections in an interval of seven days compared to the previous seven, and which reflects the evolution of infections from 8 to 16 days ago, stands in Germany as a whole at 1.06 , which implies that every hundred infected infect on average another 106 people.

The RKI points out in its daily report that it has modified its estimate of risk to the health of the population in Germany as a whole, which it describes as “very high”.

Tomorrow the “hard lockdown” goes into effect agreed on Sunday between the German Government and the 16 federal states and that will last until next January 10. The restrictive measures include the closure of non-essential shops and schools, which are added to the cessation of activity in force since the beginning of November in the sectors of leisure, sports, culture and gastronomy. The limit of five people from two addresses is maintained in private meetings – which does not include those under 14 years of age in the calculation – and for Christmas, between December 24 and 26, the meetings may be extended to four more people, also from other homes.
