CHINA DETECTS 5 LOCAL CASES IN DIFFERENT AREAS
China registered other five new local infections of coronavirus, three of them in the province of Anhui (east), where the day before had announced two cases, and another two more in the province of Liaoning (northeast), reported today the National Health Commission. With that, the small outbreak found on Thursday is no longer limited to Anhui and another is added in a province well to the north of it, after more than three weeks without any local case in the country.
Regarding the Anhui outbreak, the official media noted that preliminary investigations suggest that one of the two infected on Thursday had contact with a traveler from abroad in the northeastern city of Dalian – in Liaoning province where the second outbreak occurred – and then infected the second case. It follows that both outbreaks could be related to infections from abroad, according to the same sources.
Since Thursday, authorities have restricted mobility of neighbors in the affected areas and have begun to carry out nucleic acid tests. In addition to these five local infections, on Friday there were nine cases from abroad in Shanghai (3, east), Shaanxi (2, center), Liaoning (1), Shandong (1, northeast), Canton (1, south) and Sichuan (1, southwest).
Active imported cases stand at 252, one of them serious, out of the total of 5,824 detected since the beginning of the epidemic. The total number of active cases rises to 279, out of the 90,829 infections recorded since December 2019, which caused 4,636 deaths.
5,613 close contacts remain under medical observation to those infected among the total of 1,014,401 people whose trace has been followed since the beginning of the disease. Regarding asymptomatic cases, which China does not consider confirmed until they show symptoms, 25 new cases were registered on Friday, 15 of them imported from abroad and 10 due to local contagion (7 in Anhui and 3 in Liaoning).
341 asymptomatic cases are kept under medical observation, 326 of them coming from abroad.
In the semi-autonomous city of Hong Kong Active cases stand at 1,339, among the 13,357 registered since the beginning of the pandemic, which caused 210 deaths.
