Chile sets new maximum in almost three months, with more than 1,770 new cases
Chile registered this Saturday 1,774 new cases of COVID-19, a new high in almost three months, health authorities reported. “The last days we have registered over 1,000 new cases daily And, although it is a situation that worries us, we know that the effects of the extensive vaccination campaign allow us to have a low occupancy in ICU beds“acknowledged the Chilean Minister of Health, Enrique Paris.
The current occupation remains at 85% nationwide and only 21% of those beds correspond to patients with COVID-19Paris pointed out. This increase in cases comes after more than two months with the pandemic under control and with the country enjoying fewer restrictions, without quarantines throughout the territory and with bars, restaurants, cinemas and sports centers open. It also occurs after the first 15 days without a curfew (which was in effect from March 2020 to October 1) and after Chile reopened its borders for vaccinated tourists, after a six-month shutdown.
