COVID cases drop 2% globally despite rebound in Europe

Global coronavirus cases fell 2% last week, despite the strong increase in infections that has recently been registered in many Western European countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland or Spain, according to the WHO epidemiological report.

From December 13 to 19, 4.1 million cases were confirmed worldwide, so that the accumulated in two years of pandemic rises to 274 million, according to WHO data.

Africa, the continent where the new omicron variant was first detected, was the region dwhere there was a greater increase in cases (53%, 256,000 more), although in absolute figures it was again Europe the area with the most cases (2.6 million, 3% less than in the previous week).
