Tens of thousands protest around the world against sanitary measures due to the pandemic
This Saturday there have been several demonstrations in Europe against sanitary measures reinstated to try to stop a new onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic.
In the district of The Hague, seat of the Dutch government, several hundred people threw stones and various objects at the policea, and set bicycles on fire. What’s more, officers in riot gear lashed out at the protesters and they used a water cannon to put out a fire at a busy intersection. Police detained several people a day after the country experienced a wave of protests, mostly peaceful, AFP journalists confirmed.
On the other hand, ehe port of Rotterdam recorded episodes of violence in the Friday protestss, when two people were injured and 51 arrested in the clashes.
In Vienna, 35,000 people according to the police took to the streets, called by the far-right party FPÖ, although its leader, Herbert Kickl, did not attend because he tested positive for the virus.
Thousands of people also protested in Melbourne and about 2,000 attended a counter-demonstration, one of the first of its kind since the pandemic began.
“Everything that has been done has been done to save lives. I mean, it has upset a lot of people and it has affected a lot of people, but it is a global pandemic. What else can we do?” Maureen told AFP. Hill.
