Detected in Madrid the first positive of Ómicron in Spain derived from a community transmission
The Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid has reported the first case of infection of the variant Omicron by community transmission, that is, unrelated to people from affected countries who may have imported the virus. It’s about a 62-year-old male who has not recorded close contact with people from the marked countries, or travel to other countries recently.
The man, who was vaccinated with two doses of AstraZeneca, presented the first symptoms on November 29, is found in home isolation and with mild symptoms, as confirmed by Ministry of Health. Although the relevant studies have not been carried out, it is very likely that the complete schedule of the vaccine is the cause that the infected person suffers a milder symptomatology, according to previous communications from the WHO.
It is it is the third positive case detected by the omnicron variant in Spain, the first was confirmed from the Gregorio Marañon last monday, when a 51-year-old traveler from South Africa began to show symptoms. Public Health confirmed at that time that it would maintain “epidemiological surveillance of the close contacts of the flight that landed on Madrid from the Dutch capital ”, since the traveler from South Africa made a stopover in Amsterdam.
The second case appeared in a similar way, a traveler in this case, who arrived in Madrid from South Africa after making a stopover in Amsterdam, like the first case. The woman, of 61 years old, tested positive for antigens and PCR. In both cases, those infected had complete vaccination guidelines, and suffered from mild symptoms.
After the appearance of these cases, the Spanish government will decide the severity of the restrictions that it will apply to prevent a new wave in one of the countries with the best incidence data, at a critical moment for almost all Europe. Despite the media commotion they present, those infected by Ómicron in Spain now represent 0.03% of the cases registered in Spain since Monday.
