The average number of COVID cases in Brazil falls to its lowest level in nine months

Brazil, one of the countries hardest hit by the COVID pandemic in the world, has registered in the last 24 hours 31,142 new coronavirus infections, with which the accumulated number of cases exceeded 20.35 million, although the average number of infections has fallen to its lowest level in nine months.

The average of new infections in the last week stood at 28,338 daily, the lowest since November 18 of last year, when the country had an average of 28,313 cases per day.

They have also been notified 926 new deaths in the last 24 hours, with which the Latin American giant accumulates 568,778 deaths and 20,350,142 infections since the start of the pandemic, in February of last year.

Such figures make this country of 212 million inhabitants the second with the highest number of deaths by COVID in the world, only behind the United States, and in the third in number of cases, after the United States and India.

As well as the number of infections, the number of deaths also fell to its lowest level in several months, a reflection of the advancement of vaccination.

The average of deaths from COVID in the last week has dropped to 862 per day, the smallest in a little over seven months, since last January 7, when the average number of victims was 793 per day.

The average of deaths has remained below a thousand daily victims for two weeks and the current one is almost four times lower than the record average registered on April 12 (3,124 victims per day), when the country was experiencing the peak of the second wave of the pandemic.

The current average number of infections (28,338 daily), meanwhile, is almost a third of that registered on June 23, when Brazil reached a record average of 77,328 covid cases per day.
