Denmark eliminates masks in public transport

Denmark to eliminate masks on public transport tomorrow, the only space in which it was still mandatory, under certain circumstances, once the requirement to keep a minimum social distance of one meter disappears.

According to EFE, this measure was scheduled for September 1, but it has come ahead after the Danish authorities lifted a few days ago the requirement of social distance, which will allow theaters and cinemas to fill their seats again.

The masks they were no longer mandatory as a general rule indoors for two months – outdoors they never were, as in the rest of the Nordic countries – except when entering and exiting public transport or when traveling standing up. The only place where they will remain mandatory will be at airports, where international guidelines are followed.

Denmark has kept the epidemic under control in recent months, thanks to a free testing strategy, tracking and sequencing, which allowed it to start a de-escalation in April linked in part to the use of coronavirus passport to show that the disease has been passed, is vaccinated or has a negative test.

Denmark is one of the least affected countries in Europe, with 2,556 deaths from coronavirus and a mortality rate of 43.93 per 100,000 inhabitants, four times less than Spain. The incidence of new cases in the last 14 days stands at 213.46 per 100,000 inhabitants, although hospital admissions remain moderate and mortality is low.

The 73.7% of the target population have started the vaccination process and 62.4% have already completed it, according to the latest official data.
