New restrictions in Seoul
South Korea registered this friday a new maximum of cases of coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, linking two days in record figures, which has led the authorities to impose new restrictions in the capital, Seoul, and its metropolitan area.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) has indicated that During the last 24 hours, 1,316 infections and two deaths have been confirmed, bringing the totals to 164,028 and 2,036, respectively.
The figure exceeds 1,275 positives on Thursday and supposese the third consecutive day in which the Asian country is above the threshold of 1,200 cases, which had not happened since the start of the pandemic.
Therefore, the South Korean Prime Minister, Kim Boo Kyum, has stressed that the Government will impose from Monday and for two weeks the maximum level of restrictions in Seoul, the adjacent province of Gyenggi and Incheon.
Under these restrictions, private gatherings of three or more people will be prohibited from 6:00 p.m. (local time) and face-to-face classes in educational centers will be suspended, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
In addition, weddings and funerals will be limited to family members and discos, bars and sports venues will be closed, while restaurants will only be able to serve people in the dining room until 10 pm.
To date, about 15.47 million people, a figure that represents 30.2 percent of the population, have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, of which 5.57 million already have the complete guideline.
