Seoul officials said they would file a compensation lawsuit of 4.6 billion won (PLN 14.86 million) against a pastor who they believe contributed to the COVID-19 pandemic by holding mass rallies.
South Korea has managed to contain the surge in infection in February / March, but since then many new outbreaks have been detected in the country. Some of them were associated with conservative religious groups that did not follow the principles of social distancing.

The capital city says Pastor Dzun Kwang Hun, who heads the Protestant Sarang Jeil Church in northern Seoul, led anti-government protests in August, disregarding anti-epidemic recommendations. Later, Dzun himself was diagnosed with a coronavirus infection.

“Even by narrowing down the damage to infection in Seoul itself, (the damage – ed.) Caused to the city council, transportation agency, district offices, the state and health insurance companies is estimated at 13.1 billion won (42.3 million – ed.).” – reported the Seoul town hall in a press release.
