Coronavirus in Poland. Prof. Horban: We got a delicate balance with the virus

We have achieved a delicate balance with the virus. We are on the right track at the moment – commented on Friday the chief COVID-19 advisor, Prof. Andrzej Horban. He emphasized that it was up to us to lift the restrictions and he did not exclude the possibility that it might happen around Christmas.

Prof. Horban was asked on Radio Zet why less coronavirus tests are performed in Poland. The doctor explained that this is because of the principle of testing only symptomatic patients. – For about a month, we’ve been testing people who show symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections – he noted. When asked if it was not about lowering the statistics and not introducing lockdown, he replied that this was not the case. – It results from the adopted strategy, reasonable that we test only symptomatic people. (…) The problem is to distinguish between people who may get sick at home and those who must be hospitalized, the doctor pointed out.

“From an economic point of view, avoiding lockdown is essential”

As he added, he would argue with the opinion that the number of infections has decreased. – We did not fall, we did not grow, it is comforting. (…) We are at this point on a flat surface. On something flat, like in the Stołowe Mountains. (…) It is up to us whether we will return to the rising curve again or, fortunately, this number of patients will start to decline. 20 thousand people with clinical symptoms every day, this is a huge number, it is really not a small epidemic – he emphasized.

According to prof. Horban, “we have achieved a delicate balance with the virus.” – We are not retreating, but evenly. If the number of infections remains at the level of 20,000 infections, that is a huge number, but it is not growing. (…) We are on the right track at the moment – assessed prof. Horban

When asked about the possibility of lifting the restrictions, he said that it was up to us. – We are on the right track at the moment. Avoiding lockdown is essential from an economic point of view, he added. He admitted that the lifting of some restrictions would be possible with 10 thousand. infections daily. – If we, as a society, follow these recommendations, there is a very good chance that the vast majority of these recommendations will be withdrawn around Christmas – he added.
