Coronavirus in Poland. Kraków and other counties on the warning list

Subsequent poviats and cities were included in the so-called warning list of the Ministry of Health. This means that there are so many coronavirus infections in them that they are very close to hitting the yellow category, which means a lot of restrictions. These are also regions currently crowded with tourists.

The warning list currently includes: Wołomin, Otwock, Puck and Starogard poviats, as well as Kraków, Katowice and Koszalin.

– Krakow is very close to enter the yellow category. If the number of new infections is as dynamic as it is now, I think Krakow will unfortunately be in the yellow category next week, said Waldemar Kraska, deputy head of the Ministry of Health, during the conference on Thursday.

At the press conference, the deputy minister presented the updated list of cities and counties subject to additional restrictions. – These are poviats that are also on the border and if the epidemiological situation does not improve, these poviats may also be classified in the yellow category next week – said Kraska.

According to the map updated by the Ministry of Health on Thursday, the city of Nowy Sącz and the Nowosądecki poviat remain in the red zone in Małopolska. The Nowy Targ poviat, which was previously in the yellow zone, was included in this zone. The Tatra poviat, eagerly visited by tourists, is now in the yellow zone. From the list of poviats with yellow restrictions, the Limanowa poviat (and even earlier, a week ago, the Oświęcim poviat) was deleted.

– We should be alert to the fact that the restrictions that we have introduced may affect any place in the country. We use the data that comes to us, there is no discretion and protection here. If there is such a need, any city in the country can be classified in the yellow or red category – said Kraska.

Over 900 new coronavirus infections. Most since the beginning of the epidemic in Poland.

– We appeal to tourists and residents to observe sanitary restrictions. We ask you to wear masks, disinfect your hands, and keep social distance. We must respect each other. It is about the welfare of everyone – said Andrzej Łęcki, head of the Crisis Management and Public Safety Department of the District Office in Zakopane, on Thursday.

In his opinion, the official numbers of infected with COVID-19 are not so high yet per capita, but – as he pointed out – the situation in the Tatra Mountains should be looked at a bit differently, because it is influenced by tourists who visit this region very willingly in the summer season .

– Unfortunately, infections are not decreasing, on the contrary. With such a large number of tourists in our area, I do not mind the yellow zone being in force here – said the head, emphasizing that it is about the common good. He also assessed that the yellow zone would not have a negative impact on tourism in the city, as it does not introduce such restrictions as the red zone.

Problems may also arise in the district of Puck, which is now full of tourists. An outbreak of a coronavirus was detected in the hospital in Puck, and therefore it was decided to close the facility. Hospital workers are among the infected. “We are not able to secure the staffing of medical staff in hospital departments, clinics and specialist offices” – informed the management.

Jarosław Białk, the starost of Puck, referred to the information about the closure of the hospital.

“The decision to suspend the work of the hospital is not easy, but it was preceded by consultations with sanitary services, security services, health experts, representatives of crisis teams – both our poviat and provincial ones. Since many hospital employees are residents of Puck and the surrounding area, we took this a radical step to save us all from a drastic increase in infections, “Jarosław Białk, the starost of Puck, wrote in his statement.

He appealed to residents and tourists to remember about social distancing, hand hygiene, and covering the mouth and nose. “I am asking for little and I believe that we are able to remember about self-discipline so that we can restore the health balance in the Puck district as soon as possible” – he added.

The outbreak of infections in the Puck district was also among the rescuers from Jastarnia.
