Coronavirus in Poland in 2024

On Wednesday, on PR24, Deputy Minister of Health Wojciech Konieczny pointed out that it is too early to talk about introducing restrictions. He emphasized that if any are considered, they will most likely affect health care facilities. Let us recall that in clinics and hospitals since last year It is no longer mandatory to wear protective masks, although it was in these places that the obligation remained the longest. However, medical facilities continue to encourage patients with symptoms of the disease (e.g. cough, runny nose) to decide to put on masks themselves to protect others from infection. Also the quoted Deputy Minister Konieczny emphasized that if a patient is sick, he should self-isolate. – Let’s not be ashamed of masks – he appealed.

He also informed that the ministry is constantly monitoring the situation. He added that the ministerial team is to meet in early September and then the August data on the dynamics of the disease will be analyzed.

Peak incidence in October

– We will be recommend wearing masks and increasing mindfulness, when it comes to hand hygiene, surface disinfection, to prevent the spread of Covid-19, influenza and RSV – announced the Chief Sanitary Inspector Paweł Grzesiowski, quoted by PAP. He added that the expected the peak of the disease will probably occur around mid-October, also due to the return to schools and increased transmission of the virus. This is an unfavorable forecast because the most optimistic variant predicts that the new variant of the Covid-19 vaccine (adapted to the new strain of the virus) will be available in Poland only in October, and experts even say that November is a more likely date.

Let us recall that in 2022, the obligation to quarantine and isolate a patient with a confirmed coronavirus infection was abolished in Poland. However, this does not change the fact that in the event of illness, one should proceed in the same way as in the case of other infectious diseases, i.e., first of all, limit contacts and, if possible, remain on sick leave until recovery. Tests are still ordered in medical facilities, you can also buy them yourself, e.g. in a pharmacy.

Vaccination recommended from October 1

In terms of vaccines, the Ministry of Health has supplemented the list of recommended vaccinations for which the purchase of vaccines has been financed by the ministry. It also includes the vaccine against Covid-19. In accordance with the conditions set by the Ministry of Health It will be financed for people over 6 months of age, in a multi-dose regimen, from 1 October 2024. Registration and vaccinations will be carried out in primary healthcare entities and pharmacies. As before, automatically issued referrals through the system will authorize vaccinations. The fastest way to do this is via the Patient’s Online Account (IKP) and the mojeIKP application. Let us remind you that the hotline through which you could register for vaccinations is no longer operational.
