Coronavirus in Poland. Cabinet Council on actions taken in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic

There were many questions about how we look compared to Europe, so I would like to say that we look good, ladies and gentlemen, said President Andrzej Duda after the Cabinet Council meeting. Coronavirus outbreaks mainly occur in workplaces and at weddings, he said. He appealed to “be reasonable: not to be taken lightly”, but at the same time “not to go overboard, to panic”.

– Well, there is a pandemic and we are all well aware of it, but – which I want to emphasize very strongly and for which I thanked your ministers – in this very difficult situation, thanks to very hard work, many wise decisions, rational decisions we are doing quite well – said President Andrzej Duda.

He said so far just over 69,000 people in Poland have fallen ill with the coronavirus (in fact, according to Friday’s data from the Ministry of Health, 69,820 infections have been confirmed). – 2,092 people died (according to Friday’s data from the Ministry of Health, the number of deaths reached 2,100 on Friday – ed.). At the same time, I would like to emphasize with all my strength that during the whole time, when the pandemic is in Poland, not a single child died. This is very important information, especially in the context that the school year has started – assessed the president.

Coronavirus in Poland

The president pointed out that the COVID-19 epidemic in Poland is of a focal nature. – It appears in two mainly places, in workplaces and at weddings, so many people, unfortunately, become infected as a result of attendance at weddings and family gatherings. Therefore, we kindly ask you to be cautious in this regard and, above all, try to keep your distance, use masks, he appealed.

– I would ask you to approach it wisely: not to be taken lightly, but at the same time rationally and calmly, not to exaggerate, to panic – added the president.

Poland against the backdrop of Europe

– There were many questions about how we look compared to Europe, so I want to say that we look good, ladies and gentlemen. There are many times less, for example, in Poland recently, the number of cases in Poland varies between 500 and 700, we have not exceeded 1000 cases a day. When it comes to the European average, we are currently in 16th place in terms of the number of cases per day – said the president. – It’s safe to say that we are in control of the situation. I would like to thank you very much, because to a large extent it is also related to the fact that it is the state, fellow countrymen, that observe the rules that have been announced and are being implemented. Thank you very much for this, because thanks to this we are able to keep this pandemic in some control and the number of cases does not increase excessively – said Duda. He assured that “there is full protection of such people who will fall ill.” As he said, there is absolutely no question of a lack of means of protection or respirators, life-saving measures. He emphasized that there are currently over a thousand respirators available in Poland, 83 are in use. – Here the situation is absolutely safe, there are plenty of beds in hospitals – stressed the president.
