The chancellor Allan Wagner met this Thursday with the Ambassador of Russia, Igor V. Romanchenko, in order to “expedite the procedures related to the conditional health registration” of the vaccine Sputnik V.
This was reported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs on their Twitter account, through which they also indicated that negotiations on the supply contract for the Russian formula will continue.
Ten days ago, the Minister of Health, Oscar Ugarte, confirmed that the Gamaleya research center had requested the registration of his vaccine against COVID-19 to General Directorate of Medicines, Supplies and Drugs (Digemid).
The head of Health specified at that time that the papers were presented directly, without any intermediary and that our country had advanced negotiations with this provider.
Awaiting authorization
The Sputnik V It still does not have an authorization to be used in the vaccination process that is carried out in our country. So far, only Sinopharm and Pfizer substances have such permission.
The Russian vaccine has been licensed so far in 56 countries, but has not yet received the go-ahead for its emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Despite this, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (FIDR) has requested to join with the Sputnik V to the international mechanism COVAX, driven by WHO, among others, to guarantee global and equitable access to preparations.
The international mechanism, created by the WHO and the GAVI Vaccine Alliance, in which 190 countries and economies participate, funds the research of anticovid vaccines in exchange for their low-cost distribution around the globe.
