The Ministry of Health of the state confirmed this Wednesday the first case of coronavirus in Nuevo León in a man from San Pedro Garza García.
Authorities reported that the patient is a 57-year-old man, who traveled to London, Munich and Madrid and after returning to Mexico began to present symptoms, so the test was performed in a laboratory of a private hospital.
The test was positive, so he underwent a second test in the state laboratory which confirmed the first result.
The patient will be in isolation at home for 14 days, in addition to eight other people with whom he had contact, who will be followed up to determine if they were infected with Covid-19.
WHO declares Covid-19 a pandemic
Today, the Health Department declared the coronavirus a pandemic due to the large number of infections outside of China, where the outbreak of the disease originated.
“We have never seen a coronavirus-caused pandemic,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“The WHO estimates that Covid-19 can be characterized as a pandemic. We can expect the number of cases, deaths and affected countries to increase in the coming days and weeks,” he added.
Coronavirus cases in Mexico
In Mexico there are currently seven confirmed cases of Covid-19 coronavirus, according to authorities from the federal Ministry of Health, which will give a new report tonight.
Yesterday an asymptomatic carrier was detected, which is a man who is an external supplier of Volkswagen Puebla and who came to the country to train the employees of said plant.
The Ministry of Health of Puebla indicated that the man, whose current status is that of the carrier, since he has not presented symptoms, is isolated in a private hospital of the entity.
