Coronavirus: in Nîmes, the retirement home and the Serre-Cavalier long-stay center under close surveillance

Gard counts 61 deaths of Covid-19, on May 1st, for 401 deaths in Occitanie. And the department is classified green on the map of France which will be used for progressive deconfinement from May 11, despite 132 hospitalizations in progress, including 28 in intensive care.

But one site catches the attention of ARS Occitanie, the Serre-Cavalier establishment in Nîmes.

This health complex is the largest gerontological center in the Gard. It hosts approximately 510 people between a retirement home and a long-stay center, in several buildings.
In this establishment alone, 15 deaths since the start of the health crisis are due to Covid-19 and fifteen others could be linked to it.
Without counting, more than 100 patients, residents and caregivers, positive for Coronavirus. Serre-Cavalier patients were grouped together and isolated in the same building.

For ARS Occitanie, the prefecture of Gard and the Nîmes teaching hospital, on which the establishment depends, it is necessary to quickly stem the evolution of the epidemic and understand the causes of such local spread. Security measures have already been taken for over a week.

A press conference will take place Monday at 2 p.m. to take stock of the health situation of this Nîmes health establishment.
