Coronavirus in Italy – authorities extend state of emergency until March 31

The Italian government has decided to extend the state of emergency, which was introduced due to the coronavirus, for another three months. Thus, the state of emergency in the country will last at least until March 31.

The state of emergency, introduced in January last year, gives greater powers to the central government. The state of emergency expired at the end of December.

The Ministry of Health also ruled that from December 16 to January 31, all visitors to Italy from European Union countries must take a test before leaving. This requirement was already in force for many non-EU countries.

That being said, those who have not been vaccinated must also undergo a five-day quarantine upon arrival.
