Xian, new wave threat under control in China
A prominent epidemiologist believes a major new wave of Covid-19 in the northwestern Chinese city of Xian is unlikely. “While other cases may be reported in the future, the threat of a strong resurgence of cases in Xian is substantially under control,” said Xinhua Li Qun, director of the Health Emergency Center of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in a ‘interview. “We have seen significant progress in the fight for control of the epidemic,” he added. Li noted that the number of cases reported daily in Xi’an has gradually decreased since the beginning of this year, indicating a positive trend in containing the spread of the virus. Xian, with 13 million inhabitants, reported 63 cases reported locally yesterday.
