Coronavirus in Israel – Bennett announced the fifth wave

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Sunday, December 19, announced the beginning of the fifth wave of coronavirus in the country. As the head of the Israeli government predicts, in 3-4 weeks, and possibly even earlier, a sharp surge in the incidence is possible in the country.

Bennett said that the closure of the border, adopted after the first cases of the Omicron strain in the world, helped to buy time and delay the arrival of a new wave.

“The time we won is coming to an end. The Omicron variant is already in Israel, and it is everywhere: from kindergartens to the Knesset. So far, we see not very high incidence rates. But the fifth wave is already here,” he said.

The Israeli prime minister also said that the government is starting a new phase in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. In the coming days, the country’s authorities will publish new restrictions for the population.

“Until then, keep social distance and wear protective masks,” Bennett added.
