Coronavirus in Great Britain. New restrictions in the UK

A maximum of 15 people at weddings, a maximum of 30 at funerals, penalties for everyone without exception for breaking sanitary rules – these are only some of the guidelines that people living in England will have to follow in the following weeks or months. The goal is to stop the second wave of the coronavirus, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said. The Scottish Autonomous Government has decided to introduce a home visit ban.

The head of the British government in the early afternoon on Tuesday presented in the House of Commons the government’s action plan in relation to the growing number of coronavirus infections. “We always knew that while we forced the virus to retreat, the prospect of a second wave was real,” he pointed out. He said that “we have reached a dangerous turning point” and that due to the increase in coronavirus infections, there is no other option but to tighten the regulations in force.

These, however, apply only to England, because health care in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is an area that is the responsibility of local governments.

New restrictions

In announcing the changes, Boris Johnson announced that “this is not a return to full lockdown,” but the list of new guidelines is long:

– everyone who can work from home should do it – all pubs, bars and restaurants will require table service only – restaurants will be open only until 10 pm – a maximum of 15 people will be able to participate in weddings and receptions – maximum 30 people will be able to attend funeral ceremonies – penalties for entrepreneurs for breaking sanitary rules of up to £ 10,000 – masking order extended to shop workers and taxi drivers and catering establishments (except when eating or drinking) – penalties for all non-blinders and mouths and violators of the “rule of six”, that is, meeting in groups of more than six people, increased from 100 to 200 pounds – suspended plans to return the public to sporting events, as well as plans to resume fairs and conferences.

“Nothing is more important than the education, health and well-being of our young people”

– We do not give a general order to stay home. We will keep schools, colleges and universities open, because nothing is more important than education, health and the well-being of our young people. We will ensure that enterprises will be able to remain open in a manner consistent with safety rules, said the British Prime Minister in the House of Commons. He added that “we must, however, take action to stop this disease (COVID-19 – ed.)”.

Boris Johnson announced that if there is no improvement in the epidemic, the restrictions will last up to six months.

– I must emphasize that if all our actions do not lead to a reduction of the R value below 1, then we reserve the right to apply more fire power with much greater restrictions – he emphasized

The R-value is the reproductive rate of the virus and tells you where the epidemic is at. It indicates how many people can be infected by one patient with an infection. An R value of less than 1 means that the epidemic is receding, above – that it is growing. Currently, the R-factor in the UK is above 1.

5 levels of alarm. Coronavirus threat in the UKUK Government

Scotland: Visiting bans nationwide

Scottish residents will not be able to meet at home with members of other households, Scottish government chief Nicola Sturgeon announced Tuesday afternoon as part of a new effort to stop the epidemic. The decisions taken in Scotland, as they have been in the past, go further than those announced two hours earlier by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson for England itself.

“The measures I am announcing today are heavy – I will not pretend otherwise – but they are not a full-scale blockade of the kind imposed in March. In fact, today’s measures are an attempt to avoid another blockade,” said Sturgeon to the Scottish Parliament.

According to them, the ban on visiting homes, which is now in force in Glasgow and almost all of Central-West Scotland, will be extended to the entire country from Friday, although it will exclude children under 12, single parents with children or couples who do not live. together. In the case of meetings in public closed spaces, such as restaurants or pubs, and in open spaces, the existing regulations remain in force, i.e. a maximum of six people from two households.

One of the reasons we chose to do so is that our preliminary data suggests that this restriction is starting to slow down the rise in cases in western Scotland. So if we extend it to the whole country now, early and preventively, we hope it will help lower the R-count and bring the virus back under control, Sturgeon explained.

Just like in England, pubs, bars and restaurants will have to close at 22, and everyone who can work from home should do so. Sturgeon announced that legal regulations may be introduced to require employers to ensure that when remote work is possible, it is performed in this way.

The ban on meeting in homes by members of different households on a Tuesday afternoon is also taking effect in Northern Ireland.

UK GPs agreed: time to enter Level 4

Monday was the third day in the last four that the number of newly detected SARS-CoV-2 infections in Great Britain was higher than 4,000, while only on September 6 it exceeded 2,000 for the first time since May.

On Monday evening, senior doctors in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland recommended raising the risk of coronavirus back from 3 to 4 on a five-point scale, meaning that the spread of the virus is high or growing exponentially, and therefore the principles of social distancing should be maintained.
