Coronavirus in Great Britain. More deaths from COVID-19, more infections

In the UK, six deaths from COVID-19 and 1,041 new infections were detected in the past 24 hours, the British government said on Sunday. It is also worrying that for the fourth day in a row there is a large increase in infections in Scotland, where the epidemic situation was relatively good until recently.

Both the balance of new deaths and infections is similar to those of recent days. From the beginning of August, the daily number of deaths does not exceed 20 victims, while the number of new cases fluctuates around a thousand, although with considerable fluctuations up and down. However, concern is the fact that Sunday is another day when this number is above this level, especially as it did not happen even once throughout July and the first week of August. It is also worrying that for the fourth day in a row there is a large increase in infections in Scotland, where the epidemic situation was relatively good until recently.

As a result, the total pandemic fatalities in Great Britain rose to 41,429, of which 36,786 died in England, 2,492 in Scotland, 1,592 in Wales, and 559 in Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom ranks fifth in the world in terms of the number of deaths, behind the United States, Brazil, Mexico and India. On the other hand, the number of detected infections increased to 325,624, which is the 13th highest result in the world.

The Scottish government is partially relaxing the restrictions

In the last 24 hours, almost 190,500 tests for the presence of coronavirus have been carried out in Great Britain, and almost 15.2 million since the beginning of the pandemic.

The balance of new deaths includes all those that were registered within 24 hours between 17 on Friday and at 17 on Saturday and which occurred within 28 days of coronavirus test confirmation. The balance of new tests and infections concerns 24 hours between 9 Saturday and 9 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Scottish government announced on Sunday that restrictions were partially relaxed 18 days ago in Aberdeen, where an outbreak of the virus was detected. As of midnight, the ban on walking more than 5 miles from home for recreational purposes and the ban on meeting in homes will be lifted, and pubs and restaurants may resume operations on Wednesday.
