Dhe corona virus continues to spread in Germany. A first case was confirmed on Tuesday in North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg. A man from the Heinsberg district of North Rhine-Westphalia was admitted to a hospital in Erkelenz on Monday afternoon with symptoms of severe pneumonia, the Düsseldorf Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday evening. He was in critical condition and was being isolated in the intensive care unit.
According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Baden-Württemberg is a man from the district of Göppingen, who was probably infected in Milan. In Italy, the number of cases had skyrocketed recently. The first cases in Germany had occurred in Bavaria weeks ago.
The patient’s wife in North Rhine-Westphalia is also treated in hospital with symptoms of a viral disease, as the Ministry of Health said. Her condition is stable. The diagnosis of whether she was also infected with the virus is still pending. The health department is currently intensively investigating all potential contact persons. The district of Heinsberg has convened a crisis team that has already taken the first measures. The schools and kindergartens in the district area are closed on Wednesday.
