Nine people were arrested on Saturday Denmark during demonstrations against restrictions anti-Covid which degenerated into clashes, police and local media said.
A few hundred people had gathered in Copenhagen, and between 50 and 65 in Aalborg, in the north, according to media reports, citing police counts.
Protest the restrictions
These demonstrations were organized by a group, “The men in black”, to protest against the restrictions imposed by the government to limit the spread of the new coronavirus.
“Freedom for Denmark, we have had enough”chanted the demonstrators.
Clashes erupted in Copenhagen between protesters, who lit fireworks and threw bottles, and police in riot gear, can be seen in videos. Four people were arrested in the capital, and five in Aalborg, also for improper use of fireworks.
According to Rasmus Schultz, coordination officer with the Copenhagen police, some of the protesters are part of “The constellation of hooligans”.
Harden semi-containment
In semi-containment since mid-December, Denmark announced Tuesday to tighten its restrictions, asking its population to avoid social contact, to preserve its health system in the face of the multiplication of cases linked to the British mutant strain.
Since January 6, it is forbidden to meet with more than five people, against ten previously – both at home and outside – and the distances to be respected between people have increased from one to two meters.
Other measures have already been in force since last month such as widespread teleworking and schools, bars, restaurants and businesses closed with the exception of pharmacies and food stores.
