Chinese authorities on Wednesday decreed the containment of the area around the largest iPhone factory in the world, after the discovery of a focus of Covid cases on the industrial site.
The economic zone around the Zhengzhou airport (downtown), where the factory operated by the Taiwanese Foxconn group is located, will have to observe a seven-day confinement, according to an official press release.
The factory, which employs more than 200,000 people, has been hit by positive Covid-19 cases since mid-October. The images on social networks showed some employees fleeing the factory over the weekend over a fence, then returning home.
