Lhe average of 533 new Covid-19 contaminations over a week is down sharply (-13.6%). In total, 78,534 contaminations were recorded.
The rate at which the number of new positive cases is declining is quite surprising. We detected 866 cases on Monday, August 10, and it would have dropped to 467 on Friday, August 14, according to figures published by Sciensano on Tuesday morning.

Potentially underestimated figures
This decrease is not explained by a decrease in the number of tests. This fall being particularly sudden, we cannot exclude that it is due to certain (big) delays in the transmission of information from the laboratories to Sciensano.
The August 14 figures would therefore be potentially underestimated. We will have to wait until we have the figures for the next few days to be sure.
Deaths and hospitalizations still on the rise
According to data released Tuesday by the Institute of Public Health Sciensano, deaths and hospitalizations are still on the rise. Between August 8 and August 14, 8.6 people died from the virus on average, 100% more than the previous week. As a reminder, a total of 9,944 people died from the coronavirus in Belgium.
