Coronavirus in Belgium: more and more people kiss each other or shake hands

The relaxation of the measures allows more people to kiss or shake hands outside their own homes, the University of Antwerp said on Tuesday through the results of its weekly survey on the experience of the coronavirus crisis. In recent weeks, researchers have noticed a decrease in the number of participants who do not shake hands or kiss each other outside the household to which they belong. For people with roommates, this percentage has been around 95% for a long time. Since the beginning of April this number has gradually decreased to 90% last week.

Other upcoming surveys

For people living alone, the percentage fluctuated around 90% for a long time, before dropping to 83% last week. The 11th part of the large study by the Antwerp on the coronavirus, carried out with 50,000 people, shows that 60% of the respondents still work exclusively at home. One in five participants, aged 66 and over, said they retired during the crisis. It remains to be seen whether this choice has been accelerated by the current situation. A large majority of young people (77%) feel that their opinion is not sufficiently taken into account. On Tuesday, the study will have a 12th component.

The survey will then examine, among other things, vacation plans and reopening in the hotel industry.
