Coronavirus in Belgium: 5 million masks arrived by plane overnight

The coronavirus in Belgium complicates the work of medical personnel who have to face a shortage of masks. Faced with the risk of a large influx of patients, the Ministry of Health called on Belgian citizens already equipped with a medical mask to drop it off at the nearest hospital. A large shipment has just arrived on our territory.

The plane carrying five million mouth masks bound for Belgium landed well in the night from Thursday to Friday, confirmed to Belga Christian Delcourt Communication manager of Liege Airport.

Civil Protection (CP) announced Thursday that a plane was to land at night in Bierset with, on board, a cargo of 5 million mouth masks.

Routed during the day

“Plane on the ground,” confirmed Delcourt shortly before 1:00 am Friday. “This material will be loaded into Civil Protection vehicles and transferred to the Major Housiau barracks in Peutie where it should arrive around 4 or 5 am. No doubt, then, the masks will be ventilated according to the needs of the different provinces where they will be dispatched during the day “, previously announced Joëlle Brouillard, commander of Crisnée Civil Protection.

There are very important needs.

Christian Delcourt, spokesman for Liege Airport gives us details about the arrival of this cargo. “There was also special protection since the defense was ready to take delivery of the cargo immediately. It still represents a lot of cash, there are 5 million masks available to Belgium”, he tells us.

Next cargoes of the same type are expected very soon. “I think there are going to be more. There are very very important needs. There were very important needs for Belgium so that night was really specially a delivery for Belgium but we have already received deliveries for France, for Italy, for Spain, for other European countries. I think it will continue because there are very important needs “, explains the spokesperson.
